HARP: The World of Tarn

The World of Tarn

The Calendar

Tarn has a consistent calendar and time system that helps maintain a regular timeline.

It is important to note that while Tarn's calendar and time system do have reference to real life concepts (i.e. hours, days, seasons, etc.), that these concepts within the game are likely different and not measured in the same way.

Each day is made up of 24 hours. Seconds and minutes are also tracked if needed. There are 60 seconds to a minute, and 60 minutes to an hour. The common way to track time is through a sundial.

There are 8 days per week. The days are named as follows:

  1. Dwei
  2. Giakin
  3. Narihd
  4. Feyr
  5. Trael
  6. Ethei
  7. Saguin
  8. Felach

Weeks themselves do not have names, but are counted by numbers within a season.

There are 7 weeks (or 56 days) per season. The seasons are named as follows:

  1. Season of the Long Shadows
  2. Season of the Muse
  3. Season of the Suns
  4. Season of the Harvest

There are 4 seasons in a year, and the years are numbered.

The world is currently in the Third Age. The First Age was that of the world forming, the elves and dwarves keep history dating to that time, it lasted for nearly 10,000 years of hardship. The Second Age was after the land masses were finally settled and real civilization began, it lasted for nearly 3000 years. The Third Age started 399 years ago as survivors of the great plague began rebuilding. The world is just becoming what it once was again. Populations are still low, but rapidly increasing across all races.

Therefore, one could say ICly: "It is currently within the time of morning, on Giakin, in the third week of the Season of the Suns, during the year 399 of the Third Age."
