The Organizations of Tarn: The Raya

The rich history of the East is steeped in belief that the ideals of Honour, Service and Tradition are paramount to the success and glory of the Desert Lands. To further these ideals, the Sultan of Lanakh has afforded his citizens a chance to develop themselves through service in the Raya (literally, 'The Way'). The training of the Raya makes a fine foundation for a distinguished military, political or diplomatic career.

The opportunities within the Raya are many and varied. The goal of the Raya is three-fold; to develop and train men and women of Lanakh to better serve their Sultan and Nation, to advance their physical, mental and spiritual education, and to provide opportunity to train with and learn from members of the Sultanate.

To be considered for admission to the Raya, the candidate must send a 'Letter of Application' to the Sultanate, simply listing the Applicant's place of residence, general interests and reasons for applying. The applicant will then be considered for duty and, if admitted, taken for induction to the Raya.

The Raya are most clearly symbolized by a pair of silver scimitars crossed over a diamond-shaped field of red.

The Raya serve as a body under the Sultan's official guard, the Sultanate. The Raya are tasked with a number of regular duties, including:

  1. Members of the Raya should, at all times, maintain vigilance against any who would break the Sultan's Law, reporting any who perpetrate such to a Janissary or their superiors. While the Raya are not meant to apprehend or punish criminals, they can if necessary use force.

  2. Members of the Raya are responsible for the safety of both themselves and their fellow Raya, assisting others with their duties as required. The Raya can only survive effectively as a group of like-minded individuals, as such they are built to work together in most cases, and should more often than not be assigned to tasks as teams and groups.

  3. Members of the Raya are expected to aid each other in all aspects of training and development, when such aid is appropriate and requested.

  4. The ideals of the Raya, as set forth by the Exalted Sultan, shall be adhered to as a matter of Honor and Pride. The Raya exists to better itself in each of the Three Pillars of the Way. The Raya hold the Physical, Spiritual and Mental health of each member as paramount to their service to the Sultan and the glorious homelands.

The Raya do have a schedule, designed to ensure that each member gains the most of their membership, and that training the Way is pursued vigilantly.
